Chelsea
defender Kurt Zouma has hailed manager Jose Mourinho for sticking by his
players even while they let themselves down in the worst-ever Barclays
Premier League title defence.
Zouma,
a Mourinho signing in January 2014, is happy to see the playing staff
at Stamford Bridge haven't been left to shoulder the responsibility for a
horror start to the season alone.
Chelsea
boss Mourinho accepted after Saturday's embarrassing defeat by
Bournemouth that: 'The responsibility for the bad moment is my
responsibility and the players' responsibility.'
The
dethroned champions now face a fight to reach the top four, sitting 14
points behind the Champions League qualifying spots with 15 games of the
season played.
But
Zouma says Mourinho is making sure there is no man left behind, with
every member of the Chelsea dressing room taking an equal measure of the
blame for their current mire.
'What's
good is that he tells us we're all together,' the French defender said.
'If things are going badly, there's a problem with everyone. He doesn't leave us, how shall we say, in the s***, in the poo. We're always together.
'He's
very close to his players, you sense he loves his players. Keeping your
confidence is the most important thing — with confidence you can do
anything. That's what we tell each other.'
Mourinho's
position will come under its strongest scrutiny yet if Chelsea fail to
reach the second round of the Champions League this week in a do-or-die
showdown with Porto in Group G.
